My NEW Orchestral Template 5.0 / In depth breakdown of Sample Libraries, Plugins, Reverbs, etc.

In this video I breakdown my new orchestral template 5.0. I play through some of my favourite patches talk about why I picked some sample libraries and plugins over others and how they're all mixed together. Note: In the video I say that CSSS and CSS have different delay times. It’s been pointed out to me that this is only because I used the classic legato patch alongside the regular legato on ...

I transcribe the piece from “Final Fantasy” that changed my life - Nobuo Uematsu
Переглядів 6 тис.9 місяців тому
Sounds like awful click bait but it isn't. I got into composing in the summer of 2015 after hearing Nobuo Uematsu's "Zanarkand" arranged for orchestra in the 2010 album "Distant Worlds II". This piece awoke something in me and from that moment forward I committed everyday of my life to composing music. 🎵 MIDI, Session Files, Scores and more: www.patreon.com/mattiachiappa 💬 Join the Discord: dis...

In todays video we discuss what makes music suspenseful. It's a fun little exploration with examples from the music of "The Lord of the Rings", "Star Wars", "Gladiator" and "Psycho". All 4 composers have similar ways of creating suspense in a variety contexts and across genres and all cues are equally effective, yet you couldn't never swap one with the other. 🎵 Get the Mockups files on my Patre...

Minimalismo emocional? Gran video gracias! ❤

They both offer so much flexibility I'm never quite sure what the point of these comparisons is. Right off the bat I can hear CS is more defined in the strings, but it's also eq'd differently, and puts more emphasis on the Violas. All of this is within the users control, i.e they can probably be made to sound a lot more similar than they do out of the box, in general tone/mixing. The more important things to listen for (and some things that you can't necessarily listen for) are things like legato, vibrato/control over vibrato, number of round robins, the range of the instruments, number of/relevance of articulations, dynamic range and number of layers in crossfades, and control over attack/release. All of the these things are arguably more important than tone when crafting a mockup or producing music in general, and all of them can severely limit how capable a library is far more than tonality and mixing. So while it's cool to hear the out of box sound, it really doesn't indicate much about how "good" these libraries are, and you shouldn't base purchasing decisions on this alone. Download demos/🏴‍☠ to get hands on with these, learn how to mix for yourself to get the sound you want out of any library. When you're just starting out it can be very easy to spend a lot of money for something that sounded good in one composer's hands, and have no idea how to get there, while also running into a brick wall with how limited in features/customization some libraries can be. I think the subscription/demo model is going to have to become a lot more widespread/robust in the near future. Many companies are starting to wake up to the fact that most people don't have hundreds of $$$ to drop on products that may not do what they want. Companies with subscriptions and robust demoing are going to win the war and garner the highest number of paying customers.

I think one of the most crucial aspects of a good build-up is the orchestration it's based on. If it doesn't deliver any harmonic tension to begin with, just adding dynamics is probably not going to cut it: garbage in garbage out basically.

It took me ages to figure this out, and I always have to remind myself. But the rule for most instruments is: READ LOWER, WRITE HIGHER. Simple. IF you're looking at a transposed score in the key of C, the trumpet will be written in D. READ THE TRUMPET NOTES IN THE KEY OF C (LOWER). If you're writing a trumpet part for a piece in C, write the trumpet part in D. WRITE THE TRUMPET PART IN THE KEY OF D (WRITE HIGHER).

I remember how my theory professor lost it when I asked, "So, if I use scale-appropriate tones for the melody in relation to the harmony, then I'm on the right track?" He was furious! In retrospect, he had a point-I was quite a handful. But still, employing "modern counterpoint" can indeed result in superb music...

Try this: use only Spot 1 and Spot 2. Rotate Spot 1's panorama to the right and Spot 2's panorama to the left. Now you have fantastic stereo sound.
